thumb_poster09sforweb For its annual spring concert the Chorale offered a salute Felix Mendelssohn and George Frideric Handel in the performance of excerpts from their famed oratorios, respectively, Elijah and Messiah .  The offering commemorated the years of Mendelssohn's birth (February 3, 1809 - November 4, 1847) and Handel's death (23 February 1685 - 14 April 1759).   Presented on Sunday, April 19 at 7:00 p.m. in St Andrew's Church, Bentinck Street, Sydney, NS. the program also included selections of the composers' instrumental works.

Both considered masterpieces, Elijah and Messiah are among the most popular biblical choral works, being rich in grandeur and favored for their stirring choruses.  The Chorale has performed Elijah in its entirety with the Nova Scotia Symphony in Halifax and in Sydney with St. Andrews' organ.  The Messiah choruses have been a continuing part of Chorale repertoire, frequently sung in celebration of various seasons of the church calendar.
